Food at The Shed
Offering a true Central Otago experience for visitors, Northburn Station's "The Shed" is the first cellar door operation in the region to offer a Food and Wine match option. Each wine comes with a tasty morsel that helps the palate appreciate the wine. The idea is to taste the wine, then the food – then return to the wine to see first how well the food complements the wine then how the food actually improves the flavour and enjoyment of the wine.
A farm gate shop within the cellar door sells merino meat cuts from the farm, and (when available) whitebait from our West Coast stand. Often there will also be fresh seasonal produce from the kitchen gardens as well as free range eggs and deli meats such as salami, patés and terrines. A range of chutneys, jellies and seasonings prepared from Northburn produce are available. Vacuum packed pre-prepared 'take home' meals aimed at people staying in visitor accommodation are also available.
Winery platters, cheese plates and childrens' meals are available daily. There is a platter suitable for two people and another for three. They contain a range of deli style food, mostly home prepared, including house smoked salmon, hummus, terrine, marinated vegetable salads, cajun prawns, chicken liver paté, our now renowned pinot noir jelly, cheeses and pickled cherries all served with freshly made breads. The Shed is open seven days a week from 10:30am to 4:30pm. Bookings are requested for large (6 or more) groups.
We regularly offer seasonal lunches based on "What's Fresh" at Northburn. To be kept informed of upcoming What's Fresh events at The Shed subscibe to our newsletter or call for further information.
In the spirit of sustainability our two large kitchen gardens do not use commercial sprays, are weeded by hand, and use composts made on the farm. Fresh seasonal vegetables from these gardens are used in our menus.
