2013 Jewellers Shop Riesling

Only made when nature allows, the Northburn Station Jeweller’s Shop Riesling 2013 is our sweeter style Riesling that is perfect drinking at lunch time with picnic foods and cheeses. It has some botrytis influence, a natural process whereby the grapes are ‘raisin-ed’ on the vine, long-lasting, fresh acidity and luscious lime and apricot fruit flavours.  The “Jeweller’s Shop” refers to the immediately adjacent gold mining area so named for its exceptionally rich yields in the 1860s.  This wine should provide similarly rich rewards

Over time, and if the wine gets very cold for any length of time, this wine may throw a harmless deposit of potassium bitartrate crystals.  These are often referred to as "wine diamonds" and are not a fault and are not harmful in any way. However, to avoid these crystals ending up in your glass we suggest decanting the wine before drinking.

Note, also that the wine you are purchasing is the "2013" please ignore the label image date.

Tasting Notes

Grapes with about 10% botrytis were hand harvested on 29th April 2010.  The juice was fermented slowly at low temperatures to ensure good mouth feel as well as clean, fresh flavours.  The well balanced acid gives the wine good structure and the more honeyed character from the botrytis plus the extra residual sugar makes for an “Auslese” style wine.
